NEW YORK CITY TOP EXECS HELP RAISE $425,000 TO CELEBRATE THE 140TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BROOKLYN BUREAU OF COMMUNITY SERVICE

Brooklyn, NY - May 8, 2006 - New York City's leading corporate and political executives celebrated the 140th Anniversary of the Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service. The Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service is one of Brooklyn's oldest and largest non-sectarian social service agencies, serving nearly 12,000 disadvantaged children and families, and adults with disabilities annually.

The 140th Anniversary event, which was held Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at Bridgewaters in Manhattan and received generous underwriting from Con Edison, honored the outstanding service of Wallace P. Parker Jr., President of KeySpan Energy Delivery and Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Brooklyn Bureau.

Brooklyn Borough President, Marty Markowitz, and his wife, Jamie, served as Honorary Chairs of the event, and WNBC's award-winning government affairs reporter, Melissa Russo, served as Master of Ceremonies.

Featuring both a live and silent auction with a unique array of prizes varying from a 6-day, 6-night photo safari in Zulu Nyala, South Africa, to lunch in Little Italy with 3 cast members of "The Sopranos," to an autographed and framed poster of Madonna, the event raised more than $425,000, which will directly benefit the children, families and adults with disabilities served by the Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service.



The 140th Anniversary Cake presented to the Brooklyn Bureau by celebrity confectioner "Cake Man" Raven Dennis.


During the past year, the Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service served more than 12,000 persons; enlisted more than 300 volunteers; provided safe and educational afterschool programs to more than 1,000 children from low-income families; placed more than 800 people with disabilities into paying jobs; kept more than 500 at-risk families intact and functioning; and prevented the unnecessary foster care placement of nearly 1,200 children.
